The Concept

Goombay

n. — a Bahamian rhythm and a way of being. Goatskin drum, cowbell, brass and conch. The pulse of 700 islands.

Authentically Bahamian. Globally accessible.

Goombay Collective follows the philosophy of Rhythms del Mundo and Studio Rio: pairing authentic local musicians with internationally recognized artists to create music that is culturally meaningful and commercially alive.

Recorded entirely in the Bahamas, the project brings global voices together with the country's finest musicians — and documents the whole creative process through high-quality film and photography.

Chapter I · Junkanoo

The debut chapter explores the rhythmic heart of Bahamian music.

Global artists and Bahamian musicians come together to reinterpret familiar songs with new depth, color and groove.

From the field

700 islands. One sound.

From the pink sands of Harbour Island to the painted clapboard of Spanish Wells, every session is shaped by the place it was recorded — the light, the water, the people.

Organic. Timeless. Emotionally resonant.

All recordings take place on location across the Bahamian archipelago to capture the authentic sound, atmosphere and spirit of the islands.

Local musicians — rooted in the traditions of Junkanoo, rake-and-scrape and goombay — collaborate closely with international artists, shaping each track into a true cultural fusion.
